Rediscovering Tchaikovsky
Saturday November 8 @ 7:30 pm
Tchaikovsky has been a favorite of concert-goers and orchestra musicians for well over a century. Tonight we reach beyond the Nutcracker and other expected favorites to explore some of Tchaikovsky’s lesser-known masterworks. Longtime friend and soloist with the SLS, Andrew Staupe, returns to present the brilliant Concert Fantasia for Piano and Orchestra. The orchestra will also perform Dr. Baldwin’s favorite early work by the composer, the Symphony No. 1, “Winter Daydreams.” You’ll be whistling some new tunes and perhaps discover new favorite works by the celebrated Russian composer after this memorable concert.
Program:
- Peter Tchaikovsky: Polonaise from “Eugene Onegin”
- Peter Tchaikovsky: Concert Fantasia for Piano and Orchestra in G major, op. 56
- Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony no. 1 in G minor, op. 13 “Winter Daydreams”
